River Rother Stone Bridges
Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Metals and Plant was contracted to remove two 100 year old stone constructed bridges that spanned the live railway line and the River Rother at Beighton, Sheffield. This included painting and prepping the underside of the bridges to allow them to receive a stress test by the client and see what maximum load they could ultimately take before being demolished.
The contract posed countless potential hazards which were avoided through detailed planning and co-ordination with various governing bodies such as the Environment agency and British rail. With the railway being live working times had to be negotiated with British rail with strict time limits and large penalty clauses should the works go over schedule or damage the rail tracks. As always the contract was completed in an environmentally friendly manner, on schedule, within budget but most of all safely.
