During my employment at Pegler Yorkshire Group Ltd (Doncaster Site) between 2009 & 2015 I used Metals & Plant Ltd for all my major demolition & removal projects. Danny Macpherson (Managing Director) was always very professional and practical at looking at challenging projects we worked together on.
The first project MAP did for me, was the removal of 3 x heavy metal fume extractions plants and all the ancillary ducting & equipment (aka Micropul Systems). This project also included the preparation for the new fume extraction plant from Camfil Farr which included the removal of asbestos containing materials from the roof of an adjacent building whilst not interrupting normal production (24hrs x 6 days a week). This took strategic planning from both parties involved, as well as an extensive RAMS evaluation and sign off before the project was given the go ahead.
The second project was the removal of old pressure vessels and decontamination of a pump room with redundant kit. As always MAP provided World Class RAMS and followed the procedures. When an issue arose, MAP discussed with myself the best course of action and adjust their plan.
The third project was demolition of an old factory building, removing asbestos containing material from a 600T & 1000T brass extrusion presses, oil contaminated underground sumps, and underground air ducts. The entire floor had to be decontaminated before any excavation work could commence along with extensive asbestos surveying. During the project unidentified asbestos was found during the excavation stage, of which without MAP's knowledge and expertise would have contaminated the building, surrounding buildings and workforce in the immediate area. MAP worked with the local HSE on the safest and best method, and adapted their plan to fulfill all legal requirements.
The forth project was the removal of the Camfil plant which had accidentally caught on fire and disrupted production. Work with MAP & Camfil, we created a 1 week window where MAP could lift the damaged unit out of the building via a crane in a confined space and then move to a safe area where the damaged unit could be decontaminated and processed for removal off Pegler Yorkshire's site. Due to the time critical constraints on this project, MAP had to have a highly detailed Gantt chart which showed the critical path and all specialist sub-contractors that they would have to use.
The fifth and final major project was removal of 200T W&M crank presses which the building was built around during the 1950's. Because this was only a few pieces of machinery in the department, health and safety was the largest risk as employees would be working only meters away from the heavy plant that needed removing. There was no room to lift the presses out of it's sunken pit with an iron fairy, due to the oil / grease used in the process no hot works was also permitted. After a carefully planned program, MAP safely removed the redundant presses with no disruption to production.
Over the years MAP have always been professional and easy contractors to work with, always putting safety first with the highly experienced and skilled workforce. I have no doubt that I will use them again in my professional life, they are not always the lowest cost contractors, but you get what you pay for, World class service with no disruption to your production and services. I could always get all my planning and scheduling done with MAP and then rest at the end of each day knowing that all tasks for the day were complete and left in a safe state of play before they left site.
I would like to personally thank Danny and his team for all of their hard work they have conducted for me, without your skills and guidance I would of not got half of my projects done on time.
